Snow Leopard Snow Leopards are solitary and territorial cats which are most active around dawn and dusk. They prefer remote mountainous regions in Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) estimates that there are between 4,000 and 7,000 left in the wild, and approximately 600 to 700 snow leopards in zoos around the world. They are hunted for their beautiful fur coats, and their bones, and body parts (which are used in traditional Chinese medicine).
